The Easter Season concludes with Pentecost Sunday and ordinary Time resumes. The Paschal Candle is kept at the Baptismal Font. Green vestments are worn, except for special feast days. Sunday readings follow cycle A and Weekday readings follow Cycle 2.
Churches are again open for Private Prayer. Hand sanitisers are being installed at the main entrance door of each Church. Parishioners are asked to bring lighters to light candles. I am asking that Church Cleaning Rota Members would resume their monthly duties to keep the House of God tidy and presentable, as they usually are. Thank you. Mod.
Armagh Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock would have taken place today, May 31st, Pentecost Sunday. This year due to COVID-19 virus, the Pilgrimage will be celebrated online – www.knockshrine.ie – from Knock Shrine beginning at 2.30pm, with the recitation of the Rosary followed by the celebration of the Pilgrimage Mass at 3pm
Parish Envelopes 2020/2021 for the Ballygawley Area are available now for collection in the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Ballygawley. Again, thanks to all who have been contributing to the Parish.

Hospital Chaplaincy in the Southern Trust – South Tyrone, Craigavon, Daisy Hill, Lurgan, St Luke’s – in These Days. While chaplains are not permitted to carry out routine hospital visits at the moment, they are still available for emergency or urgent visits. To: Clergy, Religious and Parishioners in the Archdiocese of Armagh
Dear Father, Dear Deacon, Dear sisters and brothers,
This weekend we celebrate Pentecost – the great feast of the Holy Spirit and the “birthday” of the Christian Church. I find it sad and disappointing that we have now come the whole way through the Easter Season and we are still unable to gather physically for Mass and the sacraments.
We have all been making great sacrifices to protect health and life and to support the Common Good. But we miss meeting up as a parish community. Thankfully, our sacrifices are bearing fruit and the number of deaths and ICU admissions from Covid19 is continuing to decline.
I want to thank you for the work you are doing at local level to plan for the full “re-opening” of parish life and worship. Please work closely with your priests so that your parish stands ready to respond quickly when the public health authorities tell us it is safe to begin gathering together again for Mass inside our churches.
Thanks also for your response to my call for ideas and questions to help draft a National Framework Document to maximise consistency across the dioceses and parishes of Ireland. At the Standing Committee of the Bishops’ Conference yesterday (meeting for the first time over video call) the Bishops agreed to refine this framework further to include a helpful checklist for parish priests and Covid-19 Parish Support Teams on physical distancing and hygiene. This will help you evaluate progress made to date and guide any necessary improvements in practice within your parish.
The Framework Document will also offer guidance on a number of important liturgical issues which many of you have been enquiring about e.g. the distribution and reception of Holy Communion; advice for concelebrants, deacons, altar servers; best practice for extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist and others who assist at Mass. At the forthcoming Episcopal Conference meeting in early June the Bishops will consider extending the current suspension of the Sunday obligation, the Sign of Peace and use of Holy Water fonts. We will also discuss the celebration of Baptism, Marriage and the Sacrament of Reconciliation in the context of any ongoing restrictions.
It is hoped that the National Framework Document will help guide our ongoing preparations at parish and diocesan level. It will also support our continuing engagement with government and public health authorities – north and south – in making a case for the early resumption of the public celebration of Mass and the Sacraments in a measured and safe way.

Sunday collection/Parish envelopes: some Parishioners have left envelopes at the Parochial House – thank you for your support and contributions. If you feel you would like to contribute and are able to contribute, you can leave envelopes at the Parochial House. Envelopes for 2020/2021 were being distributed in March but regulations concerning travel etc have disrupted this. If you have not as yet received envelopes due to present circumstances and would like to contribute use a plain envelope adding your name and address and Parish envelope number.

WEEKLY FOOD BOX.
A weekly service will see 10,000 food boxes being delivered to the most vulnerable during the Covid-19 lockdown. If you have received a letter from your GP and you have been asked to shield during the pandemic you may be able to get a weekly food box delivered to your home. Food boxes are available for people who cannot afford food and who do not have a support network of family and friends to help them through this emergency. These boxes will also be available to those who are not shielding, but who are in critical need of food including families and older citizens.
If you feel you may qualify for a weekly food box you can contact the Covod-19 Community helpline who will carry out an assessment to see if you are able to avail of a food box. Your details will then be passed on to partners in the Health Trusts and/or local Councils who will arrange delivery of your weeklt food box. ‘Across The Hedgerow’ Project (NI)
Rural Support has just launched a new initiative in response to Covid 19 in conjunction with Young Farmers Clubs of Ulster entitled ‘Across The Hedgerow’. The project aims to provide older, vulnerable and/or isolated members of the farming community with listening support and companionship via outward bound telephone calls. The initiative will be delivered by the Rural Support volunteer team along with the help of YFCU volunteers. Rural Support Helpline: 0800 138 1678.
