Masks should be worn when attending Mass. Please observe social distancing while in the Churches. Those receiving Holy Communion can only do so on the hand – as was the norm last March 2020. In coming to receive please respect social distancing in the procession to the sanctuary. Those attending are asked to bring a wipe with them to clean down the place where they were praying. Like our homes, it is important to keep our Churches clean and hygienic. After Mass, when outside the Church, please once again respect social distancing. Attending any of the weekday Masses fulfils the Sunday obligation which has been suspended for the foreseeable future so please plan which Mass suits you or your family.

Grandparents Day: Pope Francis has announced the establishment of an international day to honour grandparents and the elderly to take place each year in July. ‘The Holy Spirit … arouses thoughts and words of wisdom in the elderly today: their voice is precious because it sings the praises of God and guards the roots of peoples. They remind us that old age is a gift and that grandparents are the link between generations, to transmit to young people an experience of life and faith,” Pope Francis said.
“Grandparents are often forgotten, and we forget this wealth of preserving and passing on the roots. For this reason, I have decided to establish the World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly,” the pope said.
The World Day for the Grandparents and the Elderly will take place annually on the fourth Sunday of July, close to the feast of the grandparents of Jesus, Saints Joachim and Anne. This year it will take place on Sunday, July 25, and Pope Francis will offer a special Mass to mark the occasion. Grandchildren are asked to think of ways to honour grandparents and grant aunts and grand uncles on that day or weekend.

THE LINK BETWEEN LITURGY AND LIFE – Our society favours being practical and tends to evaluate people and institutions in this light. Practicality has led to numerous inventions that have made life more humane. It also asks people to draw a closer link between theory and everyday life, urging them to be more down-to-earth. But for some practical-minded people, religion appears to put too much emphasis on the next world rather than this one. Further, they claim that the time and effort devoted to ceremonies and otherworldly endeavours seems to have little value. They would want religion to confine itself to humanitarian deeds. The Church has a vital role to play in shaping responsible citizens with moral character and with a willingness to contribute to the well-being of society. The liturgy and worship of the Church have much to do with these admirable goals. At divine worship, people receive the grace to help them to be formed ever more closely to Christ. The saving grace of the dying and rising of Christ are communicated to us in the Sacraments so that we might live more perfectly Christ’s truth and virtues such as love, justice, mercy and compassion. Every Mass ends with the mission to go forth and serve the Lord. This sending means that the love of God and neighbour and the moral implications of the Beatitudes and the Ten Commandments should be witnessed by the participants in everyday life. People of faith know that their liturgical experience provides a unique spiritual vision and strength for making this a better world. The lives of the saints provide ample evidence of this truth. Saints of every age have improved healthcare and education and fostered the human dignity of the poor, the oppressed and the society at large. Saints attribute their remarkable energies to the power that comes from prayer and above all from the Sacraments, especially the Eucharist. (From Irish Catholic Catechism for Adults
