After Mass procession to Grotto to mark the 18th and final apparition of Our Lady to St Bernadette, 16th July 1879. Because the Grotto at Lourdes was barricaded by the local government, St Bernadette knelt outside the fence by the riverbank. She said of the Apparition: “I thought I was at the Grotto, at the same distance as I was the other times. All I saw was Our Lady … She was more beautiful than ever.”

Blessing of the Graves – bring water with you!
Altar Glen Mass – the weather dictated that we remained at the Church for Mass after the Blessing of the Graves on Sunday 2nd July. It was the correct decision in the end. And the blessing was that we had a full Church for Mass, which echoed my few words last Sunday, 8th/9th, and gathering and praying together benefits us all! For many people the change of venue made little difference to their Sunday plans – but the local Altar Glen Committee were working hard to prepare the Glen for Mass – dressing the Altar, decorating the Glen with bunting, providing chairs and a canopy, arranging microphones and refreshments afterwards in the Community Centre. Thanks to them for their preparations and for having to take all away afterwards. A lot of work goes on behind the scenes. Thank you and God bless!
Church of the Immaculate Conception – to mark the 40th anniversary of its consecration and opening in 1982 the Church has been painted, a new stone in the grounds marks the 40th and new carpet will go down in August (week beginning 7th hopefully). Before that, as I said last Saturday evening at Mass it falls to us as Parishioners to lift the pews in preparation for the carpet – probably over the weekend of Saturday evening/Sunday 5th/6th. Able-bodied Parishioners welcome to volunteer! Details nearer the time.
Bishop Michael Router will join us for Mass on Sunday 3rd September at 11am to mark this occasion.

I applaud some senior citizens of our Parish who attend Mass during the week especially in the evening – thus avoiding the bigger crowds at the weekend. I am sure there are many who could follow their example – some people only leave the house for important appointments – maybe some younger family members might encourage and accompany older family members to attend weekday evening Mass from time to time.
