Church of the Immaculate Conception – following our celebrations for the 40th Anniversary of the Opening of the Church it was thought that a small publication of photographs and memories of the building and official opening of the Church in 1983 and subsequent events that occurred in the Church – family celebrations – should be put together for ourselves and future generations. Photographs will be returned to owners – and any material should be passed on to Eilish McSorley or Fr. Michael. Thank you.

St Brigid born circa 454 in Faughart; died 524/5 – secondary Patron of Ireland – is renowned for her hospitality, almsgiving and care of the sick. She founded a double (women and men) monastery in Kildare. Her cult is widespread throughout Ireland (bank holiday on the first Monday of February to honour her) and in several European lands also. Louth County Council is putting on a ‘Northern Lights’ multi-sensory lighting show celebrating Brigid of Faughart as a beacon of light connecting the past to the present and will take place in Dundalk Town Centre, each evening from Wednesday 31st January to Monday 5th February (bank holiday) and each weekend during February. See Louth County Council website.
St Brigid’s Primary School, Altamuskin is named after her.
